Clallam County Superior Court Clerk

The Clallam County Clerk of Superior Court files and indexes all records for the county's Superior Court and Family Court. The clerk's office is at 223 E. 4th Street, Suite 9, Port Angeles, WA 98362. You can reach the clerk at (360) 417-2231. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 pm, except for Clallam County scheduled holidays.

Case types handled by the clerk's office include criminal felony cases, civil filings, domestic filings, probate and guardianship filings, paternity and adoption, mental illness, juvenile dependency, juvenile offender, and judgments. Ex Parte Hearings are held daily at 1 p.m. with an 11 a.m. filing deadline. For motion calendars, Judges Brent Basden, Simon Barnhart, and Elizabeth Stanley rotate on Friday civil and criminal calendars.

The clerk's office does not accept fax or email filings. Documents must be submitted in person or through the e-filing system. Accepted payment methods are cash, cashier checks, money orders, and online payment through LexisNexis. Personal checks are not accepted.

Copy fees for Clallam County court documents are as follows: non-certified paper copies cost $0.50 per page, electronic copies are $0.25 per page, and certified copies cost $5.00 for the first page plus $1.00 for each additional page. Certified copies must be obtained in person or by mail. They include the Official Seal of the Court and a Deputy Clerk's Signature, which makes them legally valid for use in other proceedings.

Clallam County E-Filing System

The Clallam County e-filing system lets attorneys and self-represented litigants submit documents to the Superior Court Clerk electronically. E-filing is not mandatory. Paper filing in person or by mail is still accepted. When a document is e-filed, it is considered filed once reviewed and accepted during the clerk's business hours. Documents submitted after hours are considered filed at the start of the next business day.

To register for e-filing, select "Request Access to Site" on the E-File Sign In page. Allow 24 hours for the clerk to process your registration request. There is a system size limit of 20 megabytes per filing. Some documents still require physical submission and cannot be e-filed. These include ex parte orders to be signed by a judge in chambers, foreign judgments, certified records for appeal, negotiable instruments, bail bonds, and documents presented during a live court hearing or trial.

Clallam County District Courts

Clallam County operates two District Courts serving different geographic areas of the peninsula. District Court 1 (East) covers central and eastern Clallam County, including Port Angeles and Sequim. District Court 2 (West) serves the West End, including Forks, Neah Bay, Clallam Bay, Sekiu, and LaPush. This two-court structure reflects the county's long geographic stretch along the Olympic Peninsula.
