It is located at the Kirkland Justice Center, 11740 NE 118th Street, Kirkland, WA 98034.

Kirkland Municipal Court handles city ordinance matters and limited jurisdiction criminal and infraction cases. Felonies and most civil matters go to King County Superior Court.

In-Person vs. Virtual Hearings in Kirkland

Kirkland Municipal Court distinguishes clearly between hearing types that must be in person and those that can be held virtually. Traffic infractions are eligible for E-File and Hearing By Mail options. Camera tickets and parking violations are also eligible for those remote options. Misdemeanor proceedings are different. They are held in person or through virtual appearance but have specific rules.

The following hearing types require in-person attendance for both the defendant and defense counsel, unless the court specifically excuses the requirement: Review and Non-Probation Review hearings, Sentencing and Statement of Circumstances end-of-jurisdiction hearings, Arraignments, Motions and Readiness hearings, Pretrial hearings with expected resolutions, Interpreter Calendar hearings, and Jury Trials. All other proceedings can be handled through virtual appearance.

If you are unsure about your specific hearing type, the court's website has details or you can call the clerk. Showing up to the wrong type of hearing (virtual instead of in-person) for a required in-person proceeding can cause problems with your case. Do not guess. Check first.

Requesting Kirkland Court Records

Kirkland handles court records requests through the city's public records request system at kirklandwa.gov. The city responds to records requests within five business days per RCW 42.56. The request types listed include Fire medical records, Fire reports, GIS maps, Municipal Court records, Planning and Building records, Police records including body worn camera footage, Public Works records, and all other city records.

Be specific when you submit a request. Include date ranges, keywords, case numbers, addresses, or parcel numbers when relevant. After you submit, you will receive an email confirmation with a tracking number. A follow-up email comes within five business days. Possible responses include full or partial release, a reference to records already on the city website, withheld or redacted records with an explanation, or confirmation that no responsive records were found.

Certified copies have a minimum charge of $5.00 per certified record, plus any applicable copying fees. The city does NOT process marriage or divorce paperwork. For those records, contact King County directly. If your request is for court case files rather than administrative records, the court may also direct you to a court-specific form.
